Counselor/LPHA TCOOMMI (Waco, TX)

Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager for TCOOMMI, performs assigned mental health and human service activities for justice involved adults with SMI. Work includes clinical interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluations and provision of psychotherapy and skills training.

Experience and Training

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology or related field required.
  • Criminal justice or forensic psychology experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be fully licensed as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD or Psychologist.
  • Must be able to maintain QMHP Credentialing for continued employment.
  • Preferred candidate is bilingual-Spanish

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of psychotherapy as well as the functioning of social service and community resources and how to utilize them effectively.
  • Advanced knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness; psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention
  • Ability to learn and implement trauma-informed and suicide safe care practices within the scope of work for the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct clinical interviews and report results of the interviews.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with Community Supervision, Corrections Department and other professional groups, to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment when dealing with people.
  • Ability to prepare reports and recommendations for administrative use, to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats of communication.
  • Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of the job duties and ability to maintain regular attendance as set forth in agency policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to successfully participate, perform, and complete the skills required for CPR, First Aid, and PMAB.
  • Computer skills: basic word processing, EHR Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm
