Role Summary

The Director of Power Projects will lead the successful delivery of natural gas and thermal power generation initiatives by providing strategic oversight and operational leadership through all project phases. This role is pivotal in ensuring projects meet safety, financial, scheduling, and quality objectives, while also nurturing strong client relationships and managing risks effectively. The Director is essential in enhancing our presence in the power market, guiding teams through complex challenges, and aligning with corporate strategies and industry best practices. Note: This role will require significant travel, with a preference for the candidate to be based in Atlanta, GA, or Kansas City, MO, although other locations may be considered based on experience and travel willingness.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direction and leadership for assigned projects throughout the lifecycle, developing and executing business and strategic planning aligned with company objectives.
• Safety Leadership: Foster a safety-first culture and demonstrate a commitment to an injury-free workplace through mentorship and action. Investigate incidents and implement corrective measures.
• Corporate Leadership: Support senior management with strategic development and company-wide initiatives, fostering best practices within the program.
• Strategy Development and Implementation: Offer strategic direction to team members in alignment with broader plans across all project phases.
• Client Relationship Management: Act as the primary executive for client relationships, leveraging deep knowledge to build and maintain long-term partnerships and business opportunities.
• Risk Management & Resolution: Act as the escalation point for project risks, negotiating resolutions to financial, contractual, and client relationship issues while mitigating risks proactively.
• Partner Relationship & Strategy: Cultivate close partnerships with subcontractors and engineers, driving the selection processes to meet project objectives and success.
• Preconstruction: Lead preconstruction discussions with clients, collaborating with internal and external partners to develop comprehensive estimates, schedules, and plans.
• Project & Schedule Review: Oversee project and schedule reviews to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled and accountability is maintained among team members.
• Resource Management: Ensure appropriate staffing relative to project commitments and adapt resource management for optimal delivery.
• Community & Industry Engagement: Build relationships within the community and industry through networking, representing the organization on key boards, and promoting the company’s interests.
• Encourage a culture of diversity and inclusion, understanding and implementing JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy throughout the organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to perform work with accuracy and within designated timelines. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Advanced presentation abilities. Proficient in MS Office and project management/accounting software, with an advanced understanding of project processes that support project completion. Proven ability to manage budgets effectively, maximize profitability, and conduct estimating and productivity analysis. Extensive knowledge of MBE/WBE/SBA regulations and corporate risk management policies. Strong relationship-building skills, both internally and externally. Deep understanding of power generation technologies and successful execution of EPC contracts is critical.

Education

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

15+ years in construction management (preferred). 5+ years in people management (required). Proven success in leading multiple large or complex projects simultaneously (required). Track record of managing major power generation projects from initiation through closeout (preferred). Expertise in EPC delivery model and risk management (preferred). Established relationships with utilities and key industry stakeholders (preferred).

Working Environment

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and may require periods of overnight travel. Willingness to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs is essential. Typical office environment, with exposure to varying weather conditions. Frequent activities include standing, walking, sitting, and viewing a computer screen; occasional bending, climbing, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
