Crest Drive, Waco, TX 76705 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of the Inland Fisheries Deputy Division Director, the Regional Director performs advanced (senior-level) managerial work administering the daily operations and activities for the Inland Fisheries Division. Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of freshwater fisheries management, conservation and research programs within the region.

Serves as Regional Director for Fisheries Management and Conservation for the northcentral and northwest region of the state. Responsible for the hiring, supervision, coordination, motivation, and evaluation of personnel within the region. Responsible for developing and administering the regional budget, assuring equipment and supplies are purchased and maintained.

Serves as a member of the Inland Fisheries senior leadership team, serves as the Statewide Stocking Coordinator and supports the planning and implementation of other statewide programs. Works under limited direction with considerable latitude for use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Complies with all Agency and Division rules, regulations, and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in fisheries, fisheries management, aquaculture, aquatic biology or other closely related field.Experience:Five years of experience in program/team supervision or management related to the specific duties of the position.Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Class 'C' Texas driver's license.NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and retaining required license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:Experience:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in fisheries, fisheries management, aquaculture or related biological field may substitute for one year of the required experience, or;Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in fisheries, fisheries management, aquaculture or related biological field may substitute for two years of the required experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in fisheries, fisheries management, aquaculture or related biological field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Thorough knowledge of warmwater fisheries management, fish culture, and research programs.Thorough knowledge of agency policies and procedures.Knowledge of agency budgetary process and fiscal practices.Skill in effective verbal and written communication.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.Skill in working with a variety of constituent groups, other agencies, NGO's, universities, State or Federal entities.Skill in budget preparation, management and control.Skill in teambuilding, leadership and problem solving with staff and outside entities.Skill in meeting deadlines.Skill in managing several complex projects simultaneously.Ability to develop and lead a team to solve problems and develop new initiatives.Ability to supervise professional and technical staff.Ability to plan, develop, manage or oversee statewide initiatives and programs.Ability to prioritize workloads, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with staff, the public, and other professionals outside the agency.Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.Ability to use personal computers, software, and internet-based information management systems or programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Required to work forty hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexible schedule options available.Required to work occasional overtime and weekends as necessary.Required to travel up to 35%, with occasional extended overnight stays, both in-state and out-of-state.Required to operate a state vehicle.Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.Required to comply with the non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
