Director of Operations
Set The Stage - Heart of Texas
Set the Stage — Heart of Texas is a home staging and furniture sales company based in Waco, TX, operating as a franchise. We serve real estate agents, homeowners, builders, and real estate investors through professional home staging and we also curate and sell furnishing packages wholesale clients.
We are a small, tight-knit team that runs lean and moves fast. We have a studio in Waco that serves as our operations hub — receiving, staging, and dispatch all flow through here. We are at an exciting inflection point: our staging operation is robust and growing, and our furniture sales vertical has enormous untapped potential. We need the right person to help us unlock it.
The Role
We are looking for a Director of Operations to serve as the operational backbone of the business. This is not a desk job — it is a builder role. You will own the day-to-day rhythm of the company while also helping us grow revenue, streamline processes, and develop the furniture sales channel into a real business unit.
You will manage a small, capable team: Amber (sales), Kaylee (digital marketing), approximately a dozen staging contractors, and our moving company vendor partner. You will report directly to the owner and have significant autonomy to make decisions and drive outcomes.
This role is approximately 80% remote with regular in-person presence at our Waco studio required. You must be local to or willing to relocate to the Waco area.
What You Will Do
Operations & Team Leadership
• Own the operational calendar — staging installs, furniture deliveries, contractor scheduling
• Be the connective tissue between sales, marketing, contractors, and vendors
• Manage and develop a small team including a sales lead and digital marketing coordinator
• Build and document processes where they don't exist — we need systems, not just hustle
• Manage vendor relationships
• Oversee studio operations including inventory receiving, tracking, and dispatch
Revenue Growth
• Partner with our sales lead (Amber) to close staging contracts and grow the client base
• Help develop and execute our wholesale furniture sales strategy — curated packages for STRs, student housing, model units, and other wholesale clients
• Identify new revenue channels and bring ideas to the table — we want a strategic thinker, not just an executor
• Work within our franchise guidelines and leverage franchise resources to grow
Financial Stewardship
• Monitor key financial metrics and flag issues early
• Help manage costs without sacrificing quality or team morale
• Work toward profitability targets as we scale
Who You Are
We are genuinely open about the profile here. This could be a sharp 28-year-old with a few years of operations or startup experience who is hungry to prove themselves. Or it could be a seasoned professional – perhaps someone whose season of life allows them to pour real energy into building something meaningful, even if compensation needs to be flexible at first.
What matters most:
• You have genuine hustle and a can-do attitude. You don't wait to be told — you see what needs doing and you do it.
• You are a natural problem-solver. When something breaks, you fix it and then figure out how to prevent it from breaking again.
• You can lead people. You earn trust quickly, give clear direction, and hold people accountable with grace.
• You are entrepreneurially minded. You want to build something, not just manage something.
• You communicate well and are organized enough to keep a small operation running smoothly.
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and can make good decisions without perfect information.
Bonus points if you have experience in:
• Home staging, furniture, interior design, or real estate adjacent businesses
• Wholesale or B2B sales
• Early-stage or small business operations
• Franchise environments
Compensation & Growth Path
Base salary: $60,000 — $80,000 depending on experience, with a profit-sharing component tied to company performance. We are looking for someone who understands the startup phase and is excited by the upside, not just the paycheck.
For the right person, especially someone who brings operational experience and a genuine ownership mentality, there is a path to meaningful equity participation over time. We want our Director of
Operations to eventually feel like a co-owner, because that is the kind of person who will actually grow this entity.
Location & Schedule
• Waco, TX — local presence required
• Approximately 80% remote, with regular in-person time at our studio
• Full-time
